A set of useful guides for teachers, those working in outreach and others wishing to encourage young women into STEM areas. WEST Fund Annual Film Night, 23rd November 2017 – Hidden Figures
This year’s film night for WEST is in a new location at Sheffield Hallam University. ‘Hidden Figures’ will be shown at the Stoddart Lecture Hall 7140 in the Stoddart Building Networking and drinks from 5pm in the Stoddart Building with the film screening at 6pm. ‘Hidden Figures’ tells the inspiring story of three African-American women working at NASA in 1962.

Annette Williams
We are sad to announce that Annette Williams, ex-Director of the UK Resource Centre for Women in Science, Engineering and Technology (UKRC), passed away last week. Annette was a driving force behind the Let’s TWIST (Train Women In Science and Technology) training developed by Sheffield Hallam University, Bradford College and Sheffield College in the late 1990s. The Let’s TWIST materials formed the basis for much of the work the WiSET has undertaken since its formation in 2005, and led to the successful 3 year ESF funded JIVE Project (2004-2007) and the creation of the government funded UKRC until its closure in 2011. Annette’s life was dedicated to making the world a better place for women and girls, particularly in the areas of science, technology, engineering and maths. We are honoured to have worked with this remarkable woman whose drive and determination was inspirational.

Our partners WEST are holding their annual film night on 18th November 2016, entrance is free but donations for the WEST Fund are welcome. The film will start at 7pm at Sheffield Hallam University, and you’re invited for drinks and nibbles beforehand too.
