Introduction
Ensuring everyone has equal access to science, technology, engineering and maths (STEM) is something we pay a lot of attention to. Women have traditionally been under-represented in these areas, but WiSET (Women in Science, Engineering and Technology) based within the Centre for Science Education (CSE), aims to redress the balance.
The CSE vision is 'Creativity that works', reflecting a passionate belief that by inspiring and capturing the imagination of young people they will be motivated towards science careers and qualifications. But creativity has to work, allowing all young people to reach their highest levels of attainment.
WiSET aims to encourage women and girls into science, engineering, technology and the built environment, to increase rates of recruitment, retention and progression of women to help meet the needs of the economy.
This is achieved through working with employers, learning providers, career professionals, personal advisers, community organisations and individuals who are considering their education options or a career change.
The team has a national reputation for activities in this field and is working with local and regional partners.
