Getting work & experience

Use this section if you would like to find out more about getting a job or work experience.

Get started by taking stock of your existing network eg  family and friends, teachers, tutors or colleagues.  Do some work experience/ voluntary work. Contact professional bodies. If you are a graduate, can you contact alumni from your institution?

Be prepared! Find out who to contact and make sure your CV is updated. But remember not all Job Opportunities are advertised - some may be hidden away so you may like to think about doing some  networking. We have a guide to successful networking in our papers and reports section.

Unpaid work experience and volunteering help to develop a range of skills - communication, organisational, problem-solving, confidence, self - awareness, self-reliance, and team working....all skills valued by employers.

It may help you to decide on a future career and give you more insight into one you may have thought about... and may even make you change your mind.
