National Award Winner

Sharon Brennan with MP Tom Levitt

At this year's Adult Learners' Week Awards ceremony in London, Sheffield Hallam University student, Sharon Brennan, won the National ESF Learning Works Award.

Sharon was nominated for this award on the basis of her involvement with an ESF funded project delivered by the Women in Science, Engineering and Technology team at SHU.

While working for Kier construction company as a trainee building surveyor, Sharon attended the 'Moving back the Walls' short course at SHU which is designed to help women build confidence and develop a deeper understanding of Built Environment professions. Sharon has now progressed to the HNC in Building Studies and is enjoying her professional work-based training.

Sharon's award was presented to her by James Plaskitt MP, Parliamentary Under-Secretary of State, Department of Work and Pensions, and following a celebratory trip on the London Eye, Sharon's own constituency MP, Tom Levitt, accompanied her on a tour of the Houses of Parliament.
